Deleting your Finexa account
Last updated
How to delete your account and everything in it — from inside the app, or from here if you have already uninstalled it. This page also sets out exactly what is removed and the one thing that is kept.
From inside the app
The fastest route, and the only one that is instant. Open Finexa and go to Profile → Settings → Delete account. You will be asked to type your email address to confirm. On the web, the same control is under Settings → Data.
It happens immediately
There is no grace period and no recovery window. When the confirmation goes through, the records described below are gone from the database. Export your data first if any of it matters — Reports offers CSV and PDF.If you have already uninstalled the app
You do not need the app, and you do not need to reinstall it. Email privacy@finexa.app from the address your account uses, with the subject "Delete my account". Sending it from that address is what identifies you; nothing else is asked for, and you will never be asked for your password.
- What happens next — The request is confirmed by reply within 7 days.
- When it is done — The deletion itself is completed within 30 days of the request, and you are told when it has been.
If you can still sign in, you can also sign in on the web and use Settings → Data, which is instant rather than a request.
What is deleted
| Category | What goes |
|---|---|
| Identity | Your name, email address and password hash. |
| Credentials | Every session, every linked Google or GitHub account, and your two-factor secret and its backup codes. |
| Security history | Your sign-ins, password changes and device records — with the IP addresses and user agents they carried. |
What happens to your money records
This depends on one thing: whether you were sharing a household with anybody.
| Your situation | What happens |
|---|---|
| You were the only person in your household | Everything goes with you — accounts, transactions, budgets, categories, rules and the household itself. Nothing is retained. |
| You shared a household with other people | Their records stay, because they are theirs. Any account that was private to you becomes a shared household account rather than one nobody can open. Your name is unlinked from the rows you entered: they survive without an author. |
| You were the only administrator of a shared household | The deletion is refused until somebody else is made an administrator. A household with members and nobody able to administer it is a household nobody can manage or close, so this is a refusal rather than a silent handover to a person who did not ask for it. |
Why anything survives at all
Only in a shared household, and only as rows without your name on them. A transaction on a shared account is part of somebody else's balance as much as yours — deleting it would change *their* records, which is not yours to do and not what you asked for. Nothing that survives identifies you.Deleting the whole household instead
Different action, different page. Settings → Data → Delete household erases the household and everything in it for every member at once, and leaves the people — including you — with an account and no data. Use it when you want to start again rather than leave.
